Chemical Brothers “Live Again”

Chemical Brothers kicked off their new album “for That Beautiful Feeling” on Sep 8th 2023, Prepping for the release, director duo Dom&Nic were asked again to direct the first single “Live Again” from their forthcoming album.

“On making ‘Live Again’, DOM&NIC said, “Working with the Chemical Brothers is always a dream for us. To have such a strong and inspiring piece of music and blank page to create a visual companion to it is as close to blissful creative freedom as it gets for directors.  This was our tenth collaboration with the Chems and we knew time would be tight on the back end of the project” – https://www.televisual.com/

Dom&Nic and producer John Madsen approached award winning collaborators to join in this blissful project to make it special and help them achieve their direction on what this music video would become like.

“We were showered with the generosity of such a strong and huge team of immensely talented companies and individuals that helped us to make this film happen because they love working with The Chemical Brothers. Many of them  also worked with us on past Chemical Brother’s videos it’s become a creative family!  Without their time, talents and generosity a film like this could never make it out of heads and onto a screen.” – https://www.promonews.tv/

One of the key collaborators was multi award winning choreographer Supple Nam, having worked with Dom&Nic many times he was excited to take advantage of this opportunity to develop his creative and working relationship with the duo.

Jumping on board the four (Dom&Nic, John Madsen and Supple) worked with another award winning collaborator, casting director Thom Hammond, where now all five started reaching out talents that could make this elevate and match all their expectations and help them visualise the video. With a few days of searching, they stumbled upon dancer Josipa Kukor, with her selftape. Supple researched Josipa’s background as did Dom&Nic to know more about her and her potential. Introducing her to a one on one casting to see her in person and workshop her range and Supple’s method of how he was going to choreograph this video, Josipa was confirmed.

Developing the idea with Dom&Nic, Supple insisted in inviting the duo to all his rehearsals with time and commitment. It was made very apparent how important it was to have the duo in Supple’s creative space to get into their brain and also explore thoughts and ideas. Supple’s passion transcended into Josipa’s approach to be able to tackle the obstacles and challenges, all of which she took in her stride. The video started to see its story unveil and excite other collaborators as the wheel was definitely in motion with the Art department, styling, camera and visual effects.

After 4 days of rehearsal Josipa stepped into the Arri Stage London studios on the prelight day, to walk through some technical steps.

With 2 days of shooting the project was all shot and ready for the post and edit.

“Kukor delivers a brilliant performance, limbs stretched as far as they will go and a look of mischievous wonder on her face each time she steps out of her uncanny trailer. Whether she hitches a ride on a crane hook and scuttles beneath an alien spacecraft, the Croatian moves like a supple soundwave.
The result is a worthy companion to one of Dom&Nic’s previous Chemical Brothers promos, ‘Wide Open’, with ballet dancer-turned-actor Sonoya Mizuno. If that film was cool and controlled science fiction, ‘Live Again’ is weird and wonderful fantasy.” – https://www.davidreviews.com/

“It’s a trippy Groundhog-Day-esque adventure story through multiple environments in a continuous dance performance by the captivating and seemingly elastic dancer, Josipa Kukor.”  – https://www.promonews.tv/

“Live Again’ is a perfect Chemical Brothers track – unstoppable, resolutely hopeful and, once heard, utterly unshakable – it needed a suitably compelling video” – https://www.lbbonline.com/
