Multi-award winning team: Directors Dom&Nic with producer John Madson from Outsider films asked international award-winning choreographer Supple Nam to join their passion project. The directors joined forces with multi-award winning VFX production company The Mill to produce a music video for legendary electronic music duo The Chemical Brothers (Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons). It was their first single since 2016 “Free Yourself” and was created to support their 2019 “No Geography” world tour.
With the song already proving to be a highlight in the duo’s live sets at festivals across Europe. The track has been branded ‘Hottest Record’ by BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac. Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons “The Chemical Brothers”, management and record label gave Dom&Nic creative freedom for this video. Directors Dom&Nic requested to meet up with Supple to talk about ideas and possibilities on making this music video original and punchy.
Prepping and exploring ways on making robots dance in a way that is unexpected or perceived, Supple jumped into the latest motion capture suit at The Mills office and presented ideas to Dom&Nic and The VFX team to see what worked. He added expected and unexpected movements to fit the script. Supple used references of people and animals dancing, celebrating, raving and natural movements, he really went all out to free himself and express the energy and vibe needed for the video. Following the dark comedy direction and a hypothetical, dystopian relationship between robot and humans in the future.
Supple had assistant Stefan Puxon and Adi Suissa to supervise in his absence certain shoot dates with the camera movement and the selected dancers in the motion capture suit (Jonny Vieco, Ted Rogers, Joshua Hubbard and Nandi Bhebhe). After applying all the movements, Supple made time to come in on the last shoot day to add extra elements and finishing touches with dancer Anna Engerström.
Since the release of the video, the industry and fans have been giving overwhelmingly positive feedback.
