Director Glen Paton contacted choreographer Supple Nam to collaborate with him on a music video for Artist Frank Turner. The video idea was inspired by 1965 Cast away comedy skit “Liar, Liar” where Frank would act as the struggling dancer to his own dance routine.
With a very specific script requiring comedy timing and choreography. Using1960’s dance moves with a modern twist Supple’s approach to getting this comedy right he played with a few different methods at rehearsal and finally concluded, Frank needed to know the dance routine well enough to work is spontaneity and charisma to sell the idea. By having Frank know the routine Supple and Glen could then pick moments that worked on camera and add it to the script on the shoot day.
Supple demonstrated to Glen his methods with Frank’s rehearsal videos to understand the approach.
